Dr Paul Licina M.B.,B.S. (Hons), F.R.A.C.S. (Orth), F.A.O.A., Adjunct Professor, QUT

Dr Paul LicinaPaul Licina is a founding member of Brisbane Orthopaedic Specialist Services. His practice is wholly devoted to the treatment of conditions of the spine.

He was educated in Brisbane, and obtained his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1987. He completed his orthopaedic training in Brisbane, and became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons in 1997. He then undertook a fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, England, under the guidance of spinal surgeon Mr John Webb. On his return he was the Director of Orthopaedics at the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, Brisbane, before entering private practice in 1999. He currently has a public appointment as paediatric spinal surgeon at the Mater Childrens Hospital.

He deals with all conditions of the spine. Of particular interest is low back problems such as disc prolapse, and uses minimally invasive surgical techniques. He also treats scoliosis and other spinal deformities, as well as neck problems. He is a member of the Spine Faculty of the international organisation AO (Arbeitsgemeinshaft für Osteosynthesfragen), dedicated to orthopaedic research and education. He is clinical director of the AO Spine Reference Centre in Brisbane

He has an interest in medical applications in computers, and has written a software programme called ORDIT, a computerised orthopaedic audit system. He also enjoys fine wine and food, and is pursuing interests in motor racing, sailing and cycling.
